Farm Sanctuary is a safe space for turkeys and an idyllic place in Watkins Glen, New York, where they can live out their days without fear of abuse or human appetites.
Saturday was 2017’s “Celebration for the Turkeys,” and families from far and wide came to the rescue to watch several of the birds gobble down cranberries, pumpkin pie and squash — all the Thanksgiving favorites.
The fowl feast, which was started more than 30 years ago, is also a way for animal lovers to learn more about turkeys and their more human qualities.

“They are all very individual, some of them love to be touched by people, some of them just like to hang out with just other turkeys, some chickens,” Farm Sanctuary National Shelter Director Susie Coston told 18 News.
“We want people to see how thankful they are and how wonderful they are and that’s what Thanksgiving is all about.”
