That’ll do pig, and then some!
Pickles is a one-year-old pet pig living in the California Bay Area. Today, he is a social media celebrity, with a dog best friend and a love for swimming, but his life wasn’t always this peachy.
His owner Maddie told PEOPLE that she rescued the pig from a flooded farm that was preparing to auction off all the animals that weren’t rescued. Then just a tiny piglet, Pickles came home with Maddie and quickly embraced the pet life.
Pickles is loving, curious and adores exploring his surroundings. Neighborhood dogs don’t seem to notice that he isn’t quite canine. According to Maddie, it’s because of his posse of pup friends that Pickles ended up at Zoom Room, an indoor dog gym.
Pickles was invited there for a dog buddy’s birthday, and staff at the training facility were happy to have the pig join the pooches. It was there that Pickles tried his hooves at an agility course. With help from mom Maddie, and a pocket full of blueberries, Pickles raced through the course with ease on his first try.
This didn’t surprise his owner, who knows that pigs are smart animals and that Pickles especially loves to try new things.
When Pickles isn’t out conquering the world, he enjoys relaxing at home with his two dog siblings. He and Frenchie brother Dill are inseparable and can often be found cuddling together.
While Maddie adores Pickles and all the joy he has brought to her life, she wants others to know that having a pig isn’t easy.

“It’s kind of like having a perpetual two-year-old,” she summarized.
Maddie is prepared for 30-pound Pickles to grow into a large pet, and makes sure to keep him mentally stimulated, active and happy.
